Graduating with a bachelor of applied arts in radio and television from Ryerson University in 1983, Keith McMahon launched his sportscasting career the following year.
He worked with a variety of broadcasters over the next two decades, including CTV, Global, MTN, CKX and CJDC, bringing sports coverage to audiences in Winnipeg, Portage la Prairie, Brandon and Dawson Creek, B.C.
Known for his quiet, approachable demeanor, McMahon earned respect and admiration throughout his broadcasting career for his calm delivery and dry wit. These qualities made him a natural on-air personality, notably as the host of Sports Line on CKND and Sports Sunday on CKY5.
McMahon’s former co-host Joe Pascucci recalls their dynamic chemistry on Sports Line, where humour and insightful sports commentary blended seamlessly.
“There was a real chemistry between us, and it felt natural because that was his personality,” Pascucci said.
McMahon’s portfolio includes coverage of major sporting events. He provided play-by-play commentary for hockey, curling, speedskating, boxing, ringette and Inuit games during the 2007 Canada Winter Games. His expertise earned him four contracts with APTN for curling play-by-play and research work during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
Further expanding his skills, McMahon served as a writer-commentator for CBC during the 2015 Pan American and Parapan Am Games in Toronto, scripting and voicing off-air sports coverage.
Outside of sports, McMahon also briefly ventured into television hosting, leading CITY-TV’s home improvement series Floor to Ceiling, where he interviewed expert contractors.
Keith McMahon was inducted into the Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Media Roll of Honour in 2003.
