Joe Pascucci was born in Toronto in 1957 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. His parents named him after the hospital, although they skipped the saint part.
Prior to his move to Winnipeg and Manitoba, Pascucci began his media journey with roles in Ontario radio and TV stations. He was hired in January 1982 by CKND-TV (later rebranded Global Winnipeg) as a sports reporter. Four years later, he became sports director and held that position until his retirement in 2014.
Besides anchoring sportscasts for more than three decades, Pascucci was instrumental in CKND's coverage of the provincial men's curling championship and provided special shows about the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He also hosted Jets Hockey on CKND and anchored Global's coverage of the National Hockey League's return to Winnipeg in 2011.
Pascucci’s play-by-play work started with University of Manitoba Bisons football. He went on to cover a long list of major events, including Grey Cups, Stanley Cup playoffs, world junior hockey championships, provincial curling championships, Briers and the Pan American Games. From 1992-96, he hosted Jets hockey telecasts and later returned to cover the Jets’ NHL revival in 2011.
Pascucci was also well known for his storytelling flair, producing videos chronicling the history of the Blue Bombers and player milestones, notably compiling every touchdown scored by record-setting Canadian Football League legend Milt Stegall. He also paired the radio broadcast of the Bombers’ 1939 Grey Cup victory over Ottawa with the archival game film, allowing fans to experience the team’s second Grey Cup victory in a new way.
In 2001, Pascucci was asked by executives at Global TV if he could create and produce an international sports show out of Winnipeg for their new specialty channel Fox Sports World Canada. He did, and in less than a year that program was picked up by Fox Sports International and became the first entirely Canadian-produced sports program broadcast in the United States and seen in countries around the world on a daily basis.
Because of his dedication to reporting on the Bombers and the CFL, he earned recognition from the Football Reporters of Canada and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame when he was inducted into the media wing in 2015. That same year, he was also inducted into the Broadcasters Association of Manitoba Hall of Fame.
Joe Pascucci was inducted to the Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Media Roll of Honour in 1999.
