Dave Komosky is a Winnipeg-born sports journalist whose career has spanned more than five decades, with a particular focus on curling.
He began writing in the early 1970s for the Winnipeg Tribune, where one of his beats was curling. He continued his career with stints as a reporter in Calgary and football reporter/columnist in Saskatoon before heading back home to Winnipeg, but curling was always a large part of his workload.
Komosky served as sports editor at the Winnipeg Sun during the 1990s, where his leadership helped shape the paper’s editorial direction during an important period of growth. He was praised for his work mentoring young reporters and recruiting some outstanding talent from outside the province. Under his guidance, the Sun's sports section became a reliable source of sharp, local coverage with a strong emphasis on both professional and amateur sports.
He eventually joined the CanWest News Service in Winnipeg as national sports editor, leading a 12-person staff of top journalists across the country to cover the 2004 Olympic Summer Games in Athens, Greece.
Komosky’s expertise in curling led to a long-standing editorial role with Curling Canada, including on-site newspaper publications such as The Tankard Times, Heart Chart and Morning Cup, which documented on- and off-ice activities at national events such as the Brier, Scotties Tournament of Hearts and world championships. He became a familiar presence at curling venues from coast to coast, working behind the scenes to bring fans and athletes closer together through strong, accessible storytelling. He eventually settled into the role of editor for Curling Canada Publications, which produces Extra End magazines.
His commitment to the sport was recognized nationally in 2023 when he received Curling Canada’s Paul McLean Award for outstanding contributions to curling journalism.
