Daren Millard has built a respected and wide-ranging career in sports broadcasting, marked by his professionalism, versatility and enduring passion for hockey.
Born in Brandon, Man., on Aug. 16, 1970, Millard began his media journey after graduating from the Western Academy Broadcasting College in Saskatoon. He launched his career in radio, with early roles at stations in Melfort, Portage la Prairie, Yorkton and Brandon. His transition to television included work at Global Winnipeg and ITV Edmonton.
In 1999, Millard joined Sportsnet ahead of the network’s launch, quickly establishing himself as a prominent voice in Canadian hockey media. Over the years, he became a trusted host on programs such as Hockey Central at Noon, Wednesday Night Hockey and coverage of major National Hockey League events such as the NHL draft and trade deadline.
Millard moved on to serve as the television host for the Vegas Golden Knights, where his deep hockey knowledge and dynamic presence enhance the in-arena experience. He also co-hosts the VGK Insiders Show and hosts his own podcast, 100% Hockey, featuring interviews with players, coaches and executives from across the hockey world.
Among his many career highlights are his coverage of Wayne Gretzky’s retirement weekend in New York City and his contributions to Sportsnet’s Olympic coverage during the Salt Lake City 2002, Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 Games, along with working the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Off the air, Millard is a devoted family man, married to Jennifer Millard and the father of two adopted children, Xero and Leila. Challenging interviews only prepared him for raising daughters. Though he humorously admits he’s still waiting for an NHL team to call him, he cherishes his weekly skates as the practice goaltender with the Golden Knights.
