Born in Saskatchewan, Prest moved to Winnipeg in 1987 to join the Free Press and begin a 25-year tenure as a sportswriter inside a 34-year journalism career. Her insightful reporting went beyond game coverage: it highlighted athletic achievements, spotlighted personal stories and brought attention to communities.
A career highlight for Prest was serving as the travelling journalist covering Canada’s national men’s and women’s volleyball teams during international competitions in Europe and South America.
Prest was inducted into the Football Manitoba Hall of Fame in 2013, which recognized her contributions to highlighting amateur football on and off the gridiron with stories such as the Churchill Bulldogs' unexpected 1992 high school title and the University of Manitoba Bisons' remarkable journey to the 2001 Vanier Cup national championship.
In 2013, Prest moved to general assignment reporting in the Free Press news department, where she continued to tell compelling stories that resonated with readers. Her versatility, compassion and commitment to responsible journalism have left an indelible mark on Manitoba's media landscape.
Beyond her writing, Prest served as a member of the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame selection committee, Sport Manitoba’s Women to Watch selection committee and Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association executive.
